What is Resolution and why are we proud to be members?
At Couchman Hanson, we’re proud that our family law solicitors are part of Resolution. But what is it? Let’s find out.
If you’ve ever spent time on the ‘Our People’ page of the Couchman Hanson website, you may have noticed that our family law solicitors, Gavyn and Nikki, are members of Resolution. However, unless you happen to know what Resolution is, you won’t appreciate why it matters to you especially if you’re thinking about separating or divorce.
In this article, we’ll look at Resolution and explain why our solicitors are members of this important organisation and how it fosters our ability to offer our clients an exceptional service.
What is Resolution?
Resolution is a national organisation of family lawyers and family law practitioners in England and Wales. The ethos of Resolution is creating a constructive environment for family law matters, without confrontation.
Resolution campaigns for better family law at government level. It also supports the professional development of family law solicitors with training courses, guidebooks and accreditations. It is the only body in England and Wales that backs family solicitors in this way.
What it means to you
The cornerstone of what Resolution does is its Code of Practice, which all members must sign up to. Because members follow this code, it means they can offer clients the best service possible during what can be a stressful and emotional time especially if children are involved.
Members pledge to:
• Reduce or manage any conflict and confrontation; for example, by not using inflammatory language
• Support and encourage families to put the best interests of any children first.
• Act with honesty, integrity and objectivity
• Help clients understand and manage the potential long-term financial and emotional consequences of decisions
• Listen to and treat everyone with respect and without judgment
• Use their experience and knowledge to guide clients through the options available to them
• Continually develop their knowledge and skills
• Use the Resolution Guides to Good Practice in their day-to-day work
By following the Code of Practice, you can expect Resolution members to:
• Listen to you, be honest with you and treat you with respect
• Explain all the options and give you the confidence to make the right decisions
• Help you focus on what’s essential in the long-term
• Help you balance financial and emotional costs with what you want to achieve
• Work with others to find the right approach and the best solutions for you
• Manage stress in what can be an already stressful situation
